Meet Child Studio: a London-based design practice that creates sophisticated and elegant interiors with cinematic and intriguing narratives and experiences. If you like a modern design but love that traditional feel, this is the interior design studio you are looking for!
Founded in 2017 by Alex Kos and Che Huang, Child Studio works across hospitality, retail and residential interiors and their inspiration comes, mostly, from traveling. They use a nature-based palette in their projects, focusing on natural finishes such as wood, stone and metal. Their work is an important inspiration for us and it was very difficult to select what project to bring you today since they are all amazing.
We ended up choosing this marvelous Mayfair residence for a hotelier and restauranteur, as a space for dining, entertaining and hosting parties. Modernism intersects perfectly with Art Deco in this London house. Shall we see it?
The London House
Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s Grand Salon at Rue de Babylone in Paris, this residence interior balances art-deco references with the 60s and 70s modernism, especially in the wooden library walls that divide the main living room/lounge from the dining and study areas. The fireplace is one of the focal points that brings a sense of scale and permanence to the space since it is situated under a linear skylight. The final result looks stunning, don’t you agree?
MAIN LIVING ROOM/LOUNGE
The living room is very spacious and works as a lounge space where guests can get along in a warm and relaxed environment. It is an area where you can see perfectly how modernism intersected with art-deco in the choice of furniture, the color palette and the presence of art pieces from different eras and parts of the world.

This sofa embodies a modular system with a wide range of elements, allowing you to play with configurations and build a sofa according to your taste, without ever giving up on comfort. This minimalistic design with generous proportions has a distinct character for its versatility, especially when combined with different accessories, such as a magazine rack, a headrest and a side table.

The dining room is slightly separated from the living room through the wooden library walls, creating a more intimate atmosphere with a darker palette. To contrast, the Child Studio designers used a combination of green tones in the upholstery and a stunning glass wall that filters the daylight. It feels chic yet warm, don’t you think?

Our Essential Chair would look amazing in a dining room like this thanks to its straight lines and fine silhouette! With hard geometrical lines, this piece holds a specialness that cannot go unnoticed. Characterized by wooden feet and back support, the square upholstered seat and backrest feature horizontal single-top stitching across the fabric.
Celebrating symmetrical shapes combined with contemporary comfort, Essential Chair can match any sophisticated decor.
Just like the other divisions of this London house, the study area also features natural materials in its furniture. The woodwork details and warm materials it’s what unify this project, for sure.
This space is situated behind the library shelves, creating a more intimate and reserved area for the homeowner. And, following the modernism intertwined with art-deco, the study area has antique lithographs and photographs on the wall and a 1960s desk lamp.
