ABOUT IMRAAN ISMAIL
Imraan Ismail’s journey from law to design is a testament to following one’s passion. Originally from South Africa, he lived in Singapore and Botswana before moving to London in 2008 to work in the city. However, after realising his true calling wasn’t in law, Imraan pursued a diploma in architectural interior design at the Inchbald School of Design in 2011. After honing his skills at the renowned Staffan Tollgard Design Group, he founded Imraan Ismail Interiors in 2012.
Known for his deep connection with clients, Imraan ensures that every project reflects their unique personalities. While he primarily works on private residential projects in London, his dream is to design a beach house in South Africa—a vision he believes can come true with the right balance of creativity and practicality.
PORT HOTEL
The Port Hotel is a beautifully restored Victorian conversion, located on Eastbourne’s beachfront promenade in East Sussex. This sea-facing gem has been restored with 19 thoughtfully designed guest rooms, a cosy bar, a laid-back restaurant and a stunning outdoor terrace on the ground floor, open to guests and the public.
The design approach is what makes the Port Hotel stand out. It doesn’t just embrace modern design—it redefines it for the seaside touch. In fact, the aesthetic here is not about trends but about creating a timeless, functional space that feels as welcoming as it is beautiful. The balance between sleek lines, organic forms and natural materials reflects the hotel’s philosophy of blending style with comfort, resulting in an environment that fosters a deep sense of well-being. ELBA ARMCHAIR AT THE PORT HOTEL
One of the standout design features of the Port Hotel is its use of organic forms and soft, rounded furniture. The curved sofas and Elba Armchair in the lounge area offer a cosy, inviting place to relax by the fireplace. Their gentle shapes create an intimate and comforting vibe and bring a sense of fluidity and movement, echoing the rhythm of the nearby waves.

Our Elba Armchair is a timeless design masterpiece, characterised by its elegant egg shape that combines generous proportions with a sleek appearance. The seat and backrest are enhanced with extra-padded pillows, providing unparalleled comfort and support.
One of Elba’s standout features is its base—a handcrafted triangular shape made from stainless steel that swivels 360 degrees. This allows the user to adjust the seating position effortlessly and adds a dynamic element to its design.
