With the stress provoked by the cosmopolitan life, people tend to rediscover themselves in the pleasure of nature and harmony. And, as interior design is a representation of who we are, this kind of need becomes evident in our home decor. That is where Feng Shui was born.
Feng Shui is a philosophy that prevails for harmony, creating balance with the natural world. This concept comes from an ancient poem that describes the ideal living conditions, where human life is connected to the environment.
The Commanding Position
The commanding position is where you want to spend most of your time in your room. It should be the farthest from the door and not in direct line with it. And that is where the main furniture element of the place should be, as it represents part of your life. For example, the desk should be your main furniture element in your office, as it represents your career.
Your floorplan should be imposed having in mind the Feng Shui energy map – The Bagua – which is divided into areas representing each one a life circumstance:
- Helpful People
Each Bagua areas have their own meaning, shape, colours, season, number and element and they will help you to make your energy stronger and improve flow in those areas. This approach can be imposed not only in a whole residence but also in a single room – you will know more about this soon.
The Five Elements
Feng Shui is also influenced by five elements, as they are related to different phases of life to complete it:
Feng Shui complement these elements and turn them into something harmonious, believing that each element has particular qualities, shapes, colours, season and area of your life.
But first, you should define where you want to focus your energy so you can find the right element to harmonize your room.
The ancient Chinese believed that, if you picked the right place to live, you would have a life that is balanced and prosperous, which inspired the creation of Feng Shui. It is an interesting approach for everyone who seeks for balance and tranquillity in their lives so you may want to try it!
